Main introduction to enzymes (2)

Hi everyone.

I have already posted the basic things about enzymes, like what are enzymes and how they are formed. So, now we shall see what types of enzymes there are. There are 3 major groups of enzymes:
  1. Proteases, which eats or breaks down proteins
  2. Lipases, which eats or breaks down fats
  3. Amylases, which eats of breaks down carbohydrate

However, out of the 3 major groups here, only Amylase enzymes work solely in digestion. So the focus for my research question will be put on Amylase enzymes.

Introduction to amylase enzymes will be posted either on monday or tuesday, so be sure to look out for it!

Main introduction to enzymes

People, before you even read my research of how enzymes in our human body help me digestion, let me ask you: do you even know what are enzymes?

Enzymes are are large protein molecules that cleaves, cuts or eats specific pre-designated things. You can describe them as Pac-mans with shark-like teeth. Depending on the programming of their teeth, the enzymes fit over certain substances like a piece of a puzzle, cutting through the specific type of thing. And luckily, it only cuts through the exact thing, for example a protein, and it will leave other similar proteins alone.

Enzymes are important as they are "bio-catalysts", which means they speed up the action of chemical reactions. Without enzymes in every cellular event that takes place in our body, the chemical reactions within us would be so slow us living right now would be impossible.

And also, in our bodies, there are more than 3000 enzymes, and most of them are proteolytic enzymes. And these 3000+ enzymes can create up to 25000 chemical reactions! These 3000 enzymes themselves are created due to either our own enzyme production, or from ingesting enzymes from our live or uncooked food.

Ok, i will stop right here for this post because there are just too much to be covered for enzymes.

1st post for this blog

Hi everyone.

The purpose of this blog of mine is for a biojournal for my science subject, which will be graded. I will be doing on the topics: Digestion, and ecology and nutrient cycles in the ecosystems. For digestion, i will be researching on enzymes: what kind of enzymes are there in our body, and how do they play their part in digestion? While for the second topic, my research question will be: what kind of different effects does global warming have on different ecosystems? And i will focus on ecosystems of 2 climates: tropical and polar. And currently, i will research on the 1st question.

If i have posted any wrong information, you can correct me by posting a comment at the post.

There is a high chance i will not be uploading any videos for the first question because i could only find "unrelated" videos.

For the meaning of the terms that i use in my posts, they will be posted at the comments section which should be under every post.
